Leigh Hinton has signed for Glasgow
Bedford Blues have confirmed that their record points scorer Leigh Hinton is moving north of the border to play for Glasgow.

"We are sorry to see him go, but it is his decision," said chairman Geoff Irvine. "If he thinks playing for Glasgow rather than Bedford is an upward step, so be it."

Hinton enjoyed a fantastic season for the Blues, scoring 397 points and it was his penalty which saw Bedford snatch victory against Plymouth at Twickenham last month in the Powergen Shield.

Mr Irvine certainly holds his club in high esteem with his implication that Bedford are at least as good as Glasgow.

Are they not a first division club in England who struggled to make any impression on that division whilst Glasgow are almost guaranteed to be in the Heineken cup every season and have international players throughout the squad.

Surely this would suggest that Glasgow are the better club and therefore Hinton is correct in his assumption that he is taking a step up where he will be challenged more consistently.

As good as? Questionable. However Glasgow's regular competition will be of higher calibre. The real question is will the player be capable of performances demanded by the Celtic league?

We're definitely sorry to see him go. Leigh's biggest strengths are probably his pace and his versatility, while his goalkicking record speaks for itself.

Good Luck Leigh !
