Scott Barrow is in the Glasgow Academy squad playing in the City Sevens
Two of Glasgow's recent signings from Hawks, Steve Swindall and Colin Shaw, are in the pro team's 'Academy' squad to play in the Jenkins & Marr Glasgow City Sevens at Cartha Queen's Park's ground, Dumbreck, on Saturday.

They are joined by two fellow professionals, Fergus Thomson and Scott Barrow.

Two Scotland under-19 caps also are in the Glasgow squad – Ali Miller, the GHA scrum half, who will be playing against his own clubs in the afternoon's opening match, and Alan Kelly, the lock from Hillhead/Jordanhill. Making up the squad are Greg Sinclair from Allan Glen's, Jonathan White from Heriot's, and Stuart Orr from Glasgow Hawks.

There is a revealing insight into modern player attitudes here. Neither Shaw nor Swindall could be bothered to travel up to Aberdeen to play for Hawks last week-end, in what was Peter Wright's last game for the club. There can be no argument that Peter - as well as their team-mates at Hawks - has advanced the career prospects of both players, but that was conveniently forgotten.

This week-end there are a few quid on offer at an otherwise meaningless "7s" tournament at Cartha Queens Park, so the mercenaries will be there. Says it all really.

What are you on about!!

The two players have hardly played for Hawks all season, and certainly not in the League run -in. The game in Aberdeen was a meaningless fixture - league already won.

Irrespective, it was good to see the young Glasgow players at the Cartha sevens. A lot of the kids appreciated the time they took to sign autographs etc. Is this not what they should be doing, encouraging the youngsters to play and also that they may now want to go to Glasgow games in the future.

Nothing to do with money, in my opinion. Obviously a CLUB man yourself.
Missed a good day at the sevens.

PS Know the players mentioned appreciated the work done by Peter at Hawks.
