Scott Lawson has backed interim coach Frank Hadden to get the role permanently
Glasgow's Scott Lawson thinks interim coach Frank Hadden has brought a new confidence to the Scotland squad, so much so that the players want him to land the role permanently.

The SRU will wait until after the weekend before deciding on who to replace Matt Williams, but if Hadden can add the scalp of Romania to that of the Barbarians the pressure will be on to make him their top man.

"Since I came into the squad the spirit and the atmosphere has been excellent," Scott said.

"The squad and training as a whole has been excellent in such a short space of time and that showed in the game last week against the Barbarians. The players responded to him.

"The senior players, who have been for some time, also say that things are much better now. To get the job full time I think that there needed to be improvement and everybody can see that already.

"Everybody has a smile on their face in training an we are enjoying our rugby. We wanted to win the last game so much for Frank and we are determined to follow that up with another win.

"Frank said that he didn't want any distractions ahead of this game and you can see why he is being cautious but hopefully we can go there and win and the job will be his."

Scott impressed against the Barbarians and he is determined to produce a performance to match to stay in the Scotland side. The 23-year-old Glasgow hooker will win his first cap in Bucharest on Sunday but he is already looking to the future. "This really is a dream come true," he said.

"The first thing I wanted to do was impress against the Barbarians and I think I managed to do that but this weekend is going to be out of this world and I aim to savour it. We know this game is going to be much tougher than the Barbarians game but I want to get stuck into their team.

"I am really grateful to get this chance but I don't want that to be it. I want to try and retain my place. This is a higher level of game but I believe I can keep improving and make it difficult for people to leave me out."
