Rory Kerr is leaving Glasgow
Glasgow winger Rory Kerr is to leave the club after five years as a professional.

Rory, a product of the Strathendrick and West Of Scotland clubs who graduated through the Scotland under-18, under-19, under-21, Sevens and A sides to win three caps in 2002 and 2003 is taking a year out from the professional game and travelling to New Zealand's South Island where he will travel, do farm work and play club rugby. During his Glasgow professional career he made 83 appearances and scored 26 tries.

SRU interim director of rugby Richie Dixon said: "Rory has been unable to challenge for a place in the Glasgow line-up due to injury for much of last season and we would hope that by taking a time-out in a new environment that it might rekindle his form and enthusiasm.

"It would certainly be our intention to track his progress in New Zealand as we believe Rory still has much to offer Scottish Rugby."

Glasgow head coach Hugh Campbell said: "Rory has been a tremendous servant for Glasgow for the past five years. We wish him all the best and hope he has a speedy recovery from the knee injury that restricted his appearances last season."

Rory said: "I really hope I can regain enjoyment from the game because that's a big thing for me. I wish to thank all the Glasgow supporters for the backing they've given me and the team over the last five years and I hope that the team produces more in the way of young, Scottish-bred players, to go from strength to strength."

One of the saddest bits of rugby news I have read in a long time. The ultimate Mr Nice Guy. Every Glasgow fan will wish Rory all the best for the future. Despite a seemingly never-ending catalogue of injuries, Rory was always smiling, always happy to stop for a chat with the fans. At West on a Saturday, he is invariably seen knocking a ball about with the kids.

All the best, Icon.

Would like to wish Rory all the best. A real shame.

It has to be said on the few games he played last year he didn't look to be enjoying it.

However when he had the self belief he could be excellent (against the Dragons 2 seasons ago for instance.)

Away good luck Rory

On behalf of all the cheerleaders I'd like to wish Rory, a Glasgow supporter's favourite, all the luck in the world in New Zealand.

All the very best Rory. Thanks for being such a great professional player for Glasgow who was always happy to talk to the fans. Especially remember you coming into the bar after the win in Galway after the first supporters away trip in 2001. Come back with the batteries fully charged and make sure you catch up with Snowy while you are in NZ

Rory will be missed at Glasgow, he's been a great player for us, both on the pitch and off it, so hope he has a great time in New Zealand.

Good guy. Hope it goes well for him in NZ.

By the way, Vic, when did you become an Eminem fan?
