Dan captained the side twice in his first season at Hughenden, 2003-4, but he could take the skipper's armband for some time with injury having robbed Glasgow of Jon Petrie until the end of the year.
Dan said in The Scotsman: "It's a great honour to lead the side and I hope that if my form continues I can captain Glasgow for a while. Nothing has been said about that, but I'm determined to provide a lead for the guys and we're all pretty focused on making up for last week by winning in Dublin.
"We should have beaten Newport Gwent Dragons because we created enough chances to win it in the first half, and that's our main target this week, taking chances.
"We've had a good week's training and though we've got injuries the guys coming in are quality players so we're confident.
"Last season we won our second and third games and that was the spark to go on a good run and with a few home games coming up we want to repeat that and get it started this weekend.
"Everyone is totally gutted over Jonny's injury.
"Even in his absence he will still be the real squad captain and he will have a valuable input.
"We all look up to him and however long I'm in charge, I will take advice from him."
