Glasgow apprentice James Eddie turned out for Ayr at Old Anniesland
Glasgow Hawks and Ayr served up a dour match at Old Anniesland with the champions battling to a hard-fought 21-10 victory.

Hawks lost fullback Colin Shaw just before kick off to cover for an injury scare to the Glasgow Warriors squad preparing for the match with Munster. Eddie McLaughlin looks dangerous whenever the ball is in his vicinity but the seasiders were unable to make full use of the winger's attacking skills. You can see some photos from the game here

John Barclay scored an interception try for Stirling County, but that wasn't enough to stop the Bridgehaugh men going down 15-7 at Boroughmuir.

Colin Gregor came off the bench to help Watsonians to a 25-20 win over Heriots at Goldenacre.

John Beattie turned out for Aberdeen Grammar against Hawick at Mansfield Park yesterday. Grammar went down to a 33-15 defeat, with John going over for a first-half try. The Scotland on Sunday reports that John started in his favoured backrow position before he was given some game time at centre.

Grammar's coach Damien Reidy was reacting to a request from Glasgow head coach Hugh Campbell and the Aussie was happy to oblige the pro-team. Reidy said of the experiment: "I am quite supportive of the move, I certainly don't think it's bizarre. I remember from my club rugby days in Australia when Toutai Kefu played at centre and he even played Super 12 rugby there for the Queensland Reds.

"They say every good backrow forward should be able to play in the midfield and with the changes in the modern game the flankers do a lot of the barging the ball up, work that used to be done by the No.12.

John is one of the most exciting rugby players I've ever worked with and I think it will be great at our level (Aberdeen) to use someone with his size and strength to run the lines he does at the opposition."
