Glasgow stay focused for big win

Glasgow skipper Dan Parks kept his players focused to achieve a great victory
Glasgow players have talked about how a terrifying incident involving team-mate Euan Murray sparked them to produce one of the club's best ever Celtic League displays.

The Warriors held their concentration to record an excellent 32-10 win over Munster, despite their concern at seeing a team-mate in such a distressing situation.

Breakaway forward Steve Swindall said in today's Daily Record: "It is never good when you see all the medical staff round a player like that. The rest of us had a chat and decided to turn it into a positive.

"Skipper Dan Parks was telling us, 'Don't let that put us down. Do it for Euan', so we did!" Calvin Howarth added: "Although it's never good to see someone go down hurt, an injury like that does pull the side together and make you raise the game for your stricken team mate."

Centre Andy Craig said: "It was a horrible thing to happen but it made us dig in. We wanted to do it for Euan."

Though events had looked dramatic and deeply unsettling, Glasgow doctor Gerry Haggerty stressed that they were not abnormal after such a serious blow to the head. Bad though it looked at the time, it's good to hear that Euan is on the mend.

So now big Euan Murray is out. We all of course wish him the very speediest of recoveries but I cannot help but worry that our forwards are starting to look a little haggard. I mean first it was JP and then only moments later our burly Canadian friend went down the same route and now Euan, we are going to end up looking like an Ivory Coast side soon, i.e. rather skinny.

I have no doubt that the remaining players and forwards in particular will rise to the challenge but with the season only starting and with some big games comming up are we on the verge of a rather depressing time? I certainly hope not and though our boys have been playing really very well throughout the whole season to date can the squad cope with such an attritional season? The last thing we want to happen is for us all to go through to Edinburgh, an unpleasant occaision at the best of times, and see our beloved Glasgow receiving a bit of a shoeing. That said the Warriors have proven to be nothing if not resiliant and brimming with tenacious grit. Just please don't do anything foolish like selling anybody!

I'd be more concerned about your game against the Blues before you start worrying about Edinburgh

The Blue's Gary? I have seen no Aukland fixtures. Oh, you must mean our Druid cousins from the valleys, boyo. Have no fear of them. At least if we loose to the welsh again they all go home afterwards. We have to LIVE with the east-coasters. Besides all that, if our greatest weakness is our props, which it certainly appears to be, so is theirs. They havn't exactly been pushing scrums around the park this season, fingers crossed we don't loose another tight head or we could be going uncontested in Murrayfield!

Good to hear such solidarity amongst the Glasgow squad. Apparently the ref offered the teams the chance to go back to the changing rooms while Euan was being attended to, but they preferred to stay on pitch.

Dan deserves the praise he is getting from his colleagues and supporters for getting such a performance from his guys under such conditions.
