Glasgow must win the mind games too

Mike Roberts went over for a great second-half try, but the Warriors had left themselves too much to do
As Glasgow again failed to string two wins together, they showed that although they may be stronger, fitter, faster and more experienced than ever, what goes on between their ears is still a problem.

Much has been made about the depth of squad and the fitness of the players, but yet again, a game was lost that could, and should, have been well within Glasgow's reach

But, in continuing the rollercoaster ride, the team is showing that mental frailty remains a problem. Hugh Campbell, the head coach, said in today's edition of The Scotsman: "It has to be that because we definitely have the ability.

"The transformation between the performance last week and this, defensively, was like night and day, and Cardiff are not a better team than Munster. For whatever reason the mental attitude didn't seem to be there. We came back in the second half but not enough to overcome the shortfalls.

"We lost ball in contact and gave it away too much in the first half, and Stevie Swindall lost the ball under their posts. That was the story of the game - a lack of composure. We are not a good enough team to be able to miss crucial tackles and get away with it. Unfortunately, tonight we had a few guys who didn't perform to their best.

Can't disagree with Hugh's comments. Last week the guys played for each other with double man tackling and slick support moves. This week was watching individuals trying things but getting isolated and missing tackles. Also thought Cardiff were more street wise with some neat blocking moves and back line creep behind the ref's back. Plenty to work on but at least the players should know they are capable of it!
