We need Friday night rugby

Warriors' head coach, Hugh Campbell, thinks Murrayfield marketeers must share the blame for Glasgow slumping to a third Celtic League defeat of the season.

On their whim, this match between Warriors and Cardiff Blues was moved to a Saturday from the traditional Friday evening slot.

Boasts have been made about the impact of a new season ticket offer, but there was little evidence of it at Hughenden, much of Glasgow's core support having apparently deserted. Over three home games, Glasgow have lost over 600 supporters. The crowd for Saturday's game was down from the previous home game played a week earlier, despite a hugely impressive win over Munster.

"It was flat out there. There was no atmosphere which definitely did not help," said Hugh in today's Herald. "We need bums on seats. On Friday nights we get a better crowd here and there's a real buzz about the place that helps the team.

"Teams in the other Celtic League countries are playing in front of seven and eight thousand. We are not getting an advantage from being at home."

em not want to be stupid but the one game with have one was against munster and that was a saturday, but generally i have to aggree with the friday night ethos. i missed the blues game but hugh's point is right cause the difference in people was really noticable at the munster game over the gwent dragons even though munster are the bigger team and would, i thought attract more people

From a completely selfish point of view, as a season ticket holder, Saturday night games suit me as there are many friday night games which I cannot make. On saying that however I have to agree that there is more of a vibrant crowd at Friday evening games. I don't think the timing of the match was a factor in the loss to Cardiff Blues. I personally lost count of the amount of times Glasgow players passed the ball to Cardiff players in tackle situations. Was this due to the astonishing similarity in shirt colours ? This does not acoount for the number of missed tackles though. Cardiff were simply too streetwise for us, their defence not giving us a moment on the ball and they played the thin line between offside and poaching to perfection. We'll be back
