Scotland role for Sean Lineen

Sean Lineen i sexpected to link up with Scotland for teh Autumn internationals
Glasgow's Sean Lineen and George Graham will again be Frank Hadden's principal assistants for the autumn rugby Tests against New Zealand, Argentina and Samoa.

Hadden, the new Scotland coach, today names his squad for next week's two-day training camp and The Herald understands he plans to continue working with the men who helped him prepare for spring wins over the Barbarians and Romania.

Hadden intends to involve all full-time pro-team coaches with the national side, in keeping with his policy of wanting a more integrated approach to Scottish professional rugby.

Steve Bates and Hugh Campbell, head coaches at Border Reivers and Glasgow Warriors respectively, will mainly operate as selection consultants. Another Borders man, Alan Tait, who stood in for the holidaying Lineen as backs coach when the team went to Romania, is set to be used as a defence specialist, while the set-piece expertise of Shade Munro, Glasgow's forwards coach, is also likely to be employed.

The coaching team Hadden assembled at Edinburgh, where Todd Blackadder has become acting head coach, will also be readily available. However, longer-term plans at the Gunners could affect the national set-up, meaning the current arrangement is only likely to be in place for the autumn Tests. As both a backs coach and the most experienced of the full-time coaches, Lineen, who is still based in the capital, is strong favourite to eventually take charge at Edinburgh.

If that is the case, the timing will be critical. While the new Gunners coach should be in place for the end of the season, the logical time for a switch will be the end of Scottish teams' involvement in this season's European competitions, with the pool stages concluding just before the RBS 6 Nations start.
