Scott, who is 24 today, faces competition from Ross Ford of Borders Reivers and Edinburgh's Dougie Hall for the hooker's jersey after Gordon Bulloch's decision to retire from the international scene.
But Scott, who earned his first cap in the win against Romania in in the summer after playing against the Barbarians, wants to claim the number two jersey in time for the Autumn Test series against New Zealand, Argentina and Samoa.
He said: "It is my first inclusion in a real Test series.
"The two games at the end of last season were great, but this is the first major series of internationals I have had a chance to be involved in.
"It is just the preliminary squad, so we will see where I go from here."
Scott has credited his senior Scotland team-mates for making his introduction to the team as seamless as possible.
He added: "The big thing for me during the Romania and Barbarians games was the experienced guys coming through and helping out the younger ones.
"You can't just throw a bunch of youngsters in and expect them to do a job.
"Hopefully, the experienced guys will still help me out during the Autumn Tests.
"Frank Hadden will have a long-term plan he will want to try and implement so, hopefully, we can all work together and get that done.
"There is great strength in depth and Frank has named a very competitive squad where guys will be fighting it our for places.
Scott added: "Obviously, everyone wants to play at Murrayfield.
"The opposition we are up against is pretty good - we have Argentina and Samoa just to soften us up before the All Blacks come to town.
"They were very strong against the Lions and we know we will be in for a tough game as well.
"But these are the types of games we all want to play in as rugby players.
