Former Glasgow winger Jon Steel has been voted Scotland's rugby league player of the year by the national team's coaching staff and management.

Jon, who plays for Hull Kingston Rovers, impressed on his international debut against Wales in the European Nations Cup and backed that up with a solid display against Ireland.

Jon won the last of his five Scotland union caps marking Jonah Lomu, before leaving Glasgow to play for a season at Borders and then making the switch to League.

Last year's player of the year was Chris Birchall who spent a trial period at Glasgow a couple of seasons ago.
