Al was a pivotal part of the Scotland team which beat France and England in the Six Nations earlier this year and after a substitute appearance against Pacific Islanders, the 25-year-old is hoping for more action when the Wallabies visit Murrayfield this Saturday.
The former Allan Glens player is hoping to win his 11th cap in the final Autumn Test and stake his claim for a starting place ahead of next year's Six Nations and the Rugby World Cup.
He told stv.tv: "The Australian game will be tough, they are a very good team.
"We will be looking to make sure we play well and try and get what would be a good victory.
"Hopefully we will get a big crowd to Murrayfield and the team will be looking to build on last year, starting by winning our home games."
Al moved to Glasgow from Edinburgh in the summer and was made captain for their assault on the Magners League – a move which took him by surprise.
He added: "I didn't know I was going to be captain before I went but it's something that I am really enjoying.
"It's a different experience at Glasgow but one that I feel is helping my rugby. We need to continue to win our home games and try to encourage more people through the gates to support us.
"The first thing I need to do is try and play well enough to get picked for the Scotland squad. From there I will be looking to try and start."
Al made his Scotland debut under Matt Williams two years ago, but the majority of his international appearances have come since Frank Hadden took over as head coach in June 2005.
Since then, the Scottish team have experienced a massive improvements in their performances and results, and Al puts this down to Hadden's emphasis on having a love for the game.
He said: "In my opinion, one of the main differences is that the guys are really enjoying the rugby we are playing, rugby that suits us which means we can produce better performances."
Al is modest about the possibility of wearing the armband for Scotland.
He added: "Anybody who plays rugby would love the opportunity to captain their country but it is not something I am thinking about at the moment.
"At the moment I am concentrating on trying to do a good job at Glasgow."
