Warriors added to Scotland squad

John Beattie has been added to the Scotland squad
Scotland have added nine players to the 22 who were on duty against Italy for training today ahead of Saturday's Six Nations Championship match against Ireland at Murrayfield.

They are forwards John Beattie, Alastair Kellock, John Barclay (all Glasgow Warriors), Alasdair Strokosch (Edinburgh Rugby) and Bruce Douglas (Border Reivers); and backs Thom Evans, Dan Parks, Rory Lamont and Graeme Morrison (all Glasgow Warriors).

All of the players from the squad against Italy will train today though David Callam, Euan Murray and Chris Paterson will play a limited part as they continue to make good progress from calf, thigh and ankle injuries respectively.

Dan is there which suggests Frank has woken up?

Hopefully Godman has been dragged from the team and dumped in the carpark. He has no place in international rugby, whoever told him he could play with men? Good riddance.
Good to see our own Mr Evans in the squad tho.

Why stick the boot into Godman, he doesn't select the team

Posted by luckyrugger on March 5, 2007 11:53 PM | Reply to this comment

To be fair, he was truly appalling against Italy and showed no control or composure. Against Wales he didn't perform nearly as well as the rest of the team and imo was "carried" through the game.

I'm not disagreeing, you may have seen my comments on his performances elsewhere, however I've noticed a little bit on nastiness creeping into some of the comments about him.

Yes you may be right. I think to many scotland fans, the way that people like Godman and Di Rollo are continuously selected while never proving their worth is extremely frustrating, and the underperforming players (rather than the management that select them) take the brunt of the anger.

I agree, Gary - no player, whether it is Parks or Godman (or anyone else) should have to read comments that are nasty or abusive. While it is fair to criticise a player's performnace or ability, I think we all need to be careful that it doesn't cross into personal abuse.

Well said, Vicki. It really pains me to agree with an Edinburgh supporter ..but, yes, I do agree with Gary on this. Now, when (if?) Godman "sticks the boot in" to the ball and puts in a good performance (for Scotland, obviously) .what will we say then?
I suspect FH has promoted his (alleged) golden boy too soon because he thinks he has the talent. I would not pass opinion on that because I have only seen him play for Scotland, like most of the Glasgow fans, I presume ..and the result has been obvious!

Don't hold your breath, though I'd love it to be true.

Im glad Dan is back in the squad, I really don't like Phil Godman, he cannot play at international level, good to see a few more glasgow players in the squad as well, lets hope Hadden puts on a decent team against Ireland

If Hadden plays Godman he may lose more than the game. He has done so well with the remnants of Williams reign but he MUST drop di rollo and Godman. It's not a Glasgow/Edinburgh thing, it's that EVERY international game PG has played he has been substandard and it is Scotland that is suffering.

I'd still like to see Johnnie Beattie getting another shot in the back row this 6N. He did extremely well against Romania and was depserately unlucky to have got crocked against the big men from the Pacific Islands. Is he fully match fit yet? If I were FH I'd be tempted to start experimenting now ahead of the RWC - the 6N is a write-off now so he might as well try out a few fringe players to see how they perform...?

Posted by luckyrugger on March 6, 2007 01:49 PM | Reply to this comment

I mostly agree, if Hadden doesn't experiment in the 6N like he claimed he would in the press, when will he? If he doesn't, we'll end up like England, relying on "experience" and "brand-names" but without a real cutting edge.

i dont like the way Godman plays but I dont think it is fair to keep going on at him. Thom and Rory are in cause Sean Lamont was injured over weekend and chris paterson is as well. G-DOg being called in means that Marcus Di Rollo is saying good bye as well. Hadden said that with G-Dog injured there was no competition for Marcus's place!!!

I think it's fair to keep going on at Godman until he (A)leaves or (B) plays well. I can only see A happening but I could well be wrong. Only I'm not and we all know it. He's rubbish and if he didn't have this link with hadden he would have been long gone. I would never have a go at a player on a personal level. It's just unfortunate that FH has this blatant personal preferance to him so what are we to do? If he served me a crap coffee in Starbucks I wouldn't like him either but I wouldn't complain on websites about it.

Sunday5 said "whoever told him he could play with men"

If this isn't having a go at a player on a personal level what is??

I hope you have the gumption to say this to his face should you ever see him rather than being some faceless internet hard man

LMAO!

Its up to Frank to select the team, so Godman isn't going to "leave" international rugby. He had a shocking game last week, as did many of the others, including Cusiter. Cusiter will no doubt redeem himself, and we have to give Godman the chance to do the same when he gets back on.

Is this the same sunday5 who has a go at the people having a go at Dan Parks?

Still think FH will stick with the team that played Italy. Don't think Scotland will do much until Jason White is back. They need someone with a presence on the pitch

I have noticed that no-one has said anything about Chris Cusiter on this thread but having a go at PG is ok though?

We have the means to win on Sat but we have to play at our very best for the full 80 mins our Ireland will slaughter us!

Personally I think we will do it but I think Cusiter should be on the bench.

PG is in the team because of a personal relationship with Hadden. Under normal circumstances his personal life would never be in question, as it is, it must be.

Anyway, it's not like I'm slagging off his mother or anything. I'm sure he's a good guy it's just a shame he's a totally useless fly-half.

What complete and utter bollocks.

Cus has escaped most of the comment because he has 26 caps, has toured with the Lions and has essentially already shown that the mistakes against Italy were an anomaly. Godman has yet to demonstrate the same, however some of the stuff being flung his way is just rubbish. I really can't see an international coach risking his job on a player simply because they have a 'personal relationship' rather than because he believes (rightly or wrongly) that the player is capable of doing a job at international level.
