Dougie Hall joins Glasgow Warriors

Dougie Hall has joined Glasgow Warriors
The Scotland and Edinburgh Rugby hooker Dougie Hall has signed for Glasgow Warriors next season.

Having recently decided to leave Edinburgh Rugby, the 19-times capped Dougie was attracted by the prospect of an exciting Warriors squad next season despite having had other offers from outside of Scotland to consider.

Commenting on his decision Dougie said: "I've thoroughly enjoyed my five years with Edinburgh. It's been a great experience and I'll miss the players, staff and supporters. I played all my senior club rugby in Glasgow and got my apprentice contract playing out of Hughenden with Hillhead-Jordanhill. I'm looking forward to giving back to Glasgow some of the experience I've gained in the past five years.

"The Warriors are clearly going places now and I've been more and more impressed by them this season so I'm really looking forward to making the move and renewing my partnership with Alastair Kellock who also joined the Warriors from Edinburgh," he added.

The 26 year old hooker started his professional career with an apprentice contract with Glasgow Caledonians before gaining a full time contract with Glasgow Rugby. Winning his first Scotland cap off the bench against Wales in a Rugby World Cup warm up game four years ago, Dougie boasts many representative honours for Scotland, earning respect at Scotland Under-19, Under-21 and Scotland A level.

Dougie continued: "I think every player thinks carefully about where they want to play when it's time to renew contracts. I seriously considered staying with Edinburgh and looked at other offers not just in Scotland. It's important for players to challenge themselves in new ways and going to Glasgow gives me the opportunity to further my career in Scotland."

Glasgow Warriors coach Sean Lineen added: "Dougie's move sends a really positive message not just to the Warriors but to Scottish rugby. I'm already planning for a stronger squad for next season and it's exciting to think Dougie will now be part of it, in a pretty impressive pack.

"This is my first player signing since the recent decision on our pro teams and there will be more to follow. I'm confident Dougie will fit in well with the forwards and Glasgow will welcome him back."

Dougie has signed a two year contract with Glasgow Warriors.

Excellent signing considering we've just lost an international hooker to Sale.

What does this signing mean for Fergus? I think he has been the best hooker in Scotland and well we know how Frank can take a shine to someone.

Maybe it means Glasgow are trying to put together a strong squad where players have to perform to keep their jersey because there is genuine competition for a starting place?

Which is fine. I'm not against the singing of an international player at all. Just rather a bit sceptical of the move. As I said before I believe Fergus has been the best hooker in Scotland this season and as much as I can agree that competition will breed success I can't help but think he might be banging his head against a wall.

Although for all that I should have started with saying welcome Dougie .

Not having my New Testament to hand... is that the parable of the Prodigal Son by any chance?

It's actually 15:7.

I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance

Don't you think Dougie has a bit of a bullet head?
