Ruaridh Jackson starts for Glasgow
Glasgow Warriors have made just one change to their starting XV for Friday night's Heineken Cup opener against Newport Gwent Dragons at Firhill (ko 7.30pm).

Ruaridh Jackson is preferred to Duncan Weir at stand-off.

On returning to the starting line-up, Ruaridh said: "I am really excited to be back. I've sat on the bench the last couple of weeks so I'm looking forward to taking this opportunity in the first game of the Heineken Cup."

His first Heineken Cup experience saw the then 20-year-old make his debut against Bath which he also marked with his first try for the club.

But although his initial Heineken Cup memory was an exciting one, he is determined to create another.

"I suppose I look forward to the Heineken Cup because it holds fond memories for me," he continued.

"I guess it made my name at the time, but that is in the past now and I have to focus on playing well this year, starting with a tough game against our well-known rivals, the Dragons."

The only other change to the match-day 23 sees the return of hooker Dougie Hall to the replacements bench in place of Pat MacArthur.

What a shocker! Lineen needs to forget babysitting weir and jackson and pick the best man for the job - focus on winning the game rather than dishing out starting places like he's sharing smarties between two grumpy toddlers.
Dragons showed strength in defence off back off scrum and the inside midfield channel was a no fly zone so we need weir to turn the rush defence rather than see jackson try to jink into a brick wall.
I guess we could always try weir at inside centre - he won motm there against france u20

I agree with the sentiment, the Dragons is a game fought at close quarters so you want to keep them on the back foot. They are not good to score from their own half so keep them down there and live off the penalties that they always give away.

I actually think you play Wier at flyhalf and Jackson at inside centre. In the way that Catt and Wilkinson used to do for England.

I agree. Weir is the better option for getting defence on the turn. Jackson doesn't have much of a kicking game. Weir at 12 is a very interesting idea. Play morrison at 13 and maybe move Evans onto the wing instead of Aramburu? We should try and play a system where both Weir and Jackson can play so that they both get valuable game time (Weir more as Jackson has had plenty of chances). Food for thought!
