In the absence of Jon Welsh, Ryan has put in some solid performances and demonstrated his dynamism with ball in hand.
Ryan's opportunities at Edinburgh were limited due to the substantial presence of Allan Jacobson but the move to Glasgow has breathed new life into the former Royal Signaller's rugby career.
“I struggled to get game time at Edinburgh, so it’s great to get opportunities here,” said the 25 year-old in the
“I’ve come here, I’ve made great friends and I’m getting more game time. I think that just being happy has an effect on my performances. It’s hard waiting around all the time, but it’s up to you to show that you can play at this level when you get these opportunities.”
Glasgow take on the Ospreys in Swansea today with both teams missing their Six Nations players. On paper at least, the big spending Ospreys’ backup squad looks far stronger than Glasgow’s, but Ryan is undaunted. He said: “It’s a big opportunity for a lot of our players. This is our chanceto show that we have strength in depth and we are good players. We might not get the chances that others get, but we have to take them when they do come along.
“The Ospreys are a tough team, we all know that. But on our day I think we can beat any team with the players we’ve got. Rugby is a game of peaks and troughs and you have to take the chances when they come.”
