Richie Vernon joins Sale

Richie Vernon has joined Sale Sharks
Glasgow Warriors forward Richie Vernon has signed a two-year deal with Sale Sharks.

Richie told glasgowwarriors.org: “I’m extremely thankful for all the support from the Glasgow fans, coaches and my fellow players. I’ve had a great time over the last four years so I’ll be very sad to leave in the summer.”

Warriors head coach, Sean Lineen, added: “Richie leaves the Warriors with the best wishes of all players, management and supporters. He will be a great addition to Sale Sharks.

“Despite his departure, I believe we will continue to have a very strong and competitive back-row with the likes of John Barclay, Johnnie Beattie and Robert Harley already included in next season’s squad along with some impressive new talents like Ryan Wilson and Chris Fusaro.”

It would be nice for once to log on to this site and actually see some positive news... rather than the constant stream of people leaving Glasgow.

Don't blame Vernon in the slightest he is 2nd choice at Glasgow and if he wants to continue his international career he needs to be playing every week but from a marketing strategy... Buy your season tickets here so as to watch a bunch of youngsters getting stuffed every week... it is hardly compelling

At what stage does the SRU actually wake up and smell the coffee.

Mixed feelings on this one. I've seen him come through the ranks, playing at West before the Warriors. He's good, no doubt. Sale fans are rightly pleased with the signing, he'll do really well there and good luck to him.

But... but...we have better players in Junior, Ryan Wilson, Rob and Jedi. Or better for us at any rate, fit into the system better, make fewer mistakes.

Totally understand why he had to be let go, there are more pressing areas to fill in the squad.

Good luck at Sale, they could be a good team next year.

AJ, I have no mixed feelings. It is a cost saving move.. nothing more. I am very disappointed that Richie has been allowed to leave.
