The lock crossed after finishing a flowing move in Scotland's impressive 47-38 win in Cordoba to open their Nations Championship campaign. But despite being heavy underdogs against the Springboks, Cummings says Scotland are travelling to win - not simply to compete. Scotland have not beaten South Africa since 2010.
"I think you've always got something to lose when you're playing international rugby to be honest," Cummings told Scotland Rugby News. "We're not going there to lose but say we at least gave it a good shot. We're going there to play our best rugby, and we believe that we can get a result if we put our best rugby out there.
"So, look, it's a massive occasion, obviously playing in Loftus, quite a few of us have played there a few times, so we're a bit more used to it, but it's obviously going to be a massive occasion and we're excited for it.
"Obviously the Springboks started really well against England. We didn't see the second half, but we saw the scoreline, and they're obviously the world champions for a reason.
"They're a great call to opposition, but who better to pitch to us against than the world champs? So, yeah, we're excited for it."
Scotland's biggest challenge is likely to be matching the physicality of South Africa's pack, with Cummings highlighting the Springboks' power and consistency.
"There's obviously a lot of power there, but they are also really confident in how they want to play.
"It doesn't really matter who's playing - obviously they've got world-class players in there and they all play the same way - they all buy into the system really well, but that's something we believe we do as well.
"They've obviously got incredible players that are well-coached and have a really good system going. But we'll just try and play our best rugby, and we believe that could be enough."
