Glasgow Warriors 42 - 0 Emirates Lions

United Rugby Championship match played at Scotstoun on Saturday March 29th 2025 | No comments

George Horne's try - his 55th for Glasgow - secured the bonus point and saw the scrum-half overtake DTH van der Merwe as the club's leading try scorer
Glasgow Warriors went over for six tries in a comfortable win over Emirates Lions at a windy Scotstoun this evening.

Warriors went ahead after just five minutes, thanks to a try from Nathan McBeth - his fourth in as many games - as he burrowed over after prolonged pressure on the visitor's line.

Jamie Dobie - starting on the wing - added another two tries in short time and alongside Adam Hastings' conversions pushed the Warriors into a 21-0 lead after just 25 minutes.

Glasgow secured their bonus when a fine move saw Dobie put George Horne in to break the club record for tries. Hastings made no mistake with the extras.

Despite the strong wind, Hastings was having a fine night with the boot, but he showed his quality with ball in hand when he wrong footed the visitor's defence to touch down for Glasgow's fifth try.

Lions just couldn't get out of their own half and things got worse on the stroke of half-time. After being reduced to 14, the Lions conceded yet again as Glasgow hooker Grant Stewart went over for another score.

This didn't just end the scoring for the first 40 minites, it was the end of the scoring for the night. Lions enjoyed more possession and territory in the second half but Glasgow played smart rugby and never looked threatened. In fact, Warriors made a few opening of their own with promising breaks that they were unable to turn into points, but it was a good night's work by the Scotstoun men.

Glasgow Warriors head coach Franco Smith said: "Both sides of the ball I am really pleased with. I am really happy with the zero and there were still a few points left out there.

"We are still growing as a group and getting better but I don't want to get ahead of ourselves.

"Is there more to come? With the guys waiting to come back, it is going to be difficult to pick a team but we still have four tough games left and nothing is a done deal."
