Harlequins 24 - 7 Glasgow Warriors

Champions Cup match played at The Stoop on Saturday January 18th 2025 | No comments

Tom Jordan scored all of Glasgow's points
Glasgow's hopes of finishing in top spot in Pool 4 are over after this evening's Champions Cup defeat to Harlequins at The Stoop.

Warriors, who had already secured qualification with a home tie in the last 16, weren't at their best with one of the few brights spots coming from a great move finished off under the posts by Tom Jordan.

Chandler Cunningham-South gave Harlequins an early lead, with James Chisholm adding another on the 20 minute mark.

Marcus Smith added a penalty five minutes later before Jordan struck for Glasgow.

Glasgow were strangely lacklustre so the anticipated second-half fightback didn't real happen leaving Quins to add another try through Caden Murley.

Glasgow's defeat came at an added cost with Scott Cummings and Gregor Hiddleston both forced off in the second period.

Speaking after the game, Glasgow head coach Franco Smith said: "We knew we had to be on it from the start and we werent. We turned over the ball with the first carry from the restart and that became a trend. We ended up defending a lot because we were inaccurate in attack. We lost the first line-out in attack, so we were architects of our own demise.

"We are a proud team, we don't want to lose, so from that perspective it is a kick in the guts and also an opportunity missed. But our compliments must go to Harlequins because they disrupted us as well. Danny Wilson [the former Glasgow Warriors coach who is now in charge of Harlequins] knows us too well because they sacked our maul at the start of the game and small, little errors [were] forced. So, they played really well tonight."

On the injuries to Cummings and Hiddleston, Smith said: "They have [both] shot off to the hospital to see if they can get some x-rays and scans done tonight, so hopefully tomorrow we'll vet some better idea of exactly what has happened. We hope and pray that it is not that serious"
