Heineken hopes end for Glasgow

Any hopes Glasgow had of continuing their interest in the Heineken Cup were sent crashing by the power and pace of Zurich Premiership challengers, Sale Sharks.

Despite an encouraging opening spell during which Glasgow took the lead through a Tommy Hayes penalty, Sale turned on the power to claim six tries to run out 45-3 winners. Other than the endeavour of the pack this was a dreadful display from a Glasgow team with huge gaps in their defence and no penetration going forward.

Glasgow coaching staff described the display as a "disgraceful, inept performance", and meetings with the squad were held well into the early hours.

The post-match analysis continued in the morning with the Glasgow backs meeting at 7.30am. Glasgow's season is now effectively over although they still have hopes of qualification for next seasons Heineken Cup.

It looks more likely though that Glasgow's large and loud following will be taking their clappers and bottles to the likes of Rome and Madrid in the Parker Pen Challenge Cup.
