Macfadyen is eager to impress

Donnie Macfadyen intends to make the most of Budge Pountney's absence to force himself into the Scotland's Six Nations squad.

Macfadyen said: "First and foremost, it is impossible not to feel desperately sorry for Budge after his horrific injury. Every player in the land will wish him a complete recovery. But I would be lying if I didn't acknowledge that his absence presents me with an opportunity.

"However I would feel a bit uneasy about inheriting a Scotland place because of Budge not being around."

Macfadyen plays for Warriors in the clash with Borders tonight which will go ahead after Hughenden was declared playable at 1.30pm.

"This is virtually a cup-final situation for us against Borders. If we don't halt our slide now, we are looking at the probability of not being in the Heineken Cup next season - that is hard to contemplate."
