Heavy defeat for Scotland A

Scotland A collapsed to a 78-6 defeat against England A at Franklin's Gardens tonight. Poor tackling led to Scotland A conceding eleven tries with their only reply coming from two Duncan Hodge penalties.

Despite having to wait until the 76th minute before coming on as a substitute, Glasgow's Rory Kerr came close to a consolation score for Scotland. He showed pace, strength and an eye for space before being stopped just short of the try line.

Scotland Head Coach Hugh Campbell said: "It was a hugely disappointing performance. England were by far the better team but we also made it easy for them. You can't afford to miss tackles and expect to compete at this level of the game."

It was Scotland's heaviest defeat at any level, and the game highlighted the difference in the depth of talent each nation has to work with, but it also mirrored the lack of creativity shown by the Scottish national team. England's powerful runners found gaps at will and their speed of thought and pass makes it frightening to think this was their second-string XV. Hopefully Scotland can rise to the challenge tomorrow at Twickenham.
