Glasgow looking for leaders

The new Glasgow coaching team have made no secret of the fact they are looking to identify leaders in a much-changed Warriors squad.

With the departure of Andy Nicol and Jason White, Glasgow have lost two players who led from the front whenever they wore a Glasgow jersey. The World Cup is also likely to deprive Glasgow of their three most senior players - Gordon Bulloch, Glenn Metcalfe and Jon Petrie.

New signing, Cammy Mather - unless selected for World Cup duty - appears to be the favourite of many observers to take over the Glasgow captaincy during the absence of Gordon, Glenn and Jon. Cammy led from the front for the Leeds Tykes, gaining the respect of fans and players alike as his Players' and Fans' Player of the Year awards show.

Another name that may emerge could be Paul Dearlove, the No 8 forward from Sydney University. Paul was made captain of Sydney University First Grade team last year at the age of twenty-three. Pretty impressive considering that the team included some strong-willed and vocal players such as Pat Howard and Phil Waugh.

With so many young players in the squad the new-look Glasgow Warriors will lean heavily on the leadership qualities of players like Cammy and Paul.

The Scotsman reports that Dave Hilton has joined Bristol as player/coach. The former Glasgow prop started his career at Bristol.
