It begins with two pre-season warm up games against Gloucester on Thursday and Newcastle on Friday 22 September at Hughenden.
Chris Birchall, 22, has switched codes by joining Glasgow from Halifax Bluesox where he had been playing whilst on loan from Bradford Bulls. At 21 he was Bradford Bulls young player of the year and has represented Great Britain at under-19 level.
Scottish qualified through a grandmother born in Kirkcudbrightshire the young league player has experience of playing rugby union having had a spell at Otley.
Glasgow will have five prop forwards in their squad for this coming season. Glasgow Warriors's Chief Executive David Jordan said: "With changes to IRB regulations requiring teams to be able to replace both prop forwards Chris's signing is an important addition to our group."
Glasgow Head Coach, Hugh Campbell, said: "Chris visited us last month for a fitness and training assessment and he displayed some fine rugby skills as well as being a powerful young man. It may take a while for him to grasp the techniques to play union but I see his position at loose-head which is a position that there seems to be fewer plays available at these days."
The presence of Hugh Campbell was a big influence in his arrival at Hughenden. "It was a massive reason. With his experience in my position, who better to teach? All the technical aspects are different and I've got to put some extra hours to get up to speed, he said.
"I got a taste of rugby union last year, but I wouldn't imagine I got anything like the sort of coaching that's going to be available here. It's up to me to take advantage of that, working with Hugh and the established props here.
"I'd be a fool to expect to master the game in six months (the length of his contract), but if I can show the club I'm making strides in that time and I'm looking like I could develop into a good front-rower, that's all I'm worried about."
Chris also explained his resaons for leaving to the Halifax fans on their official club website: "It was just something my agent came up with," he said. "I had a few enquiries for next year but to be honest once this came up I didn't really consider them. I really enjoyed myself at Otley - believe it or not it is a good game to play - and this is a chance to be full-time with a very professional club.
"I had the chance to go back to Otley but I felt that I needed to be playing at a higher level. Personally, it's a big move but it was something I needed to do to try and kick start my career."
Chris was adamant he was not leaving Halifax in the lurch, and admitted he had been stalling his new employers while Tony Anderson's side were still fighting for Super League survival. "I have kept putting them off and it got to the stage where they were going to withdraw their offer," he said.
"Both Halifax and Bradford have been really good though, and I wish Tony and the lads all the best for the future."
If Chris returns to rugby league, Halifax have retained an option which will give them first call on the Leeds-born player - providing Chris is unable to snare a top flight deal. "I have enjoyed it here and I would love to comeback sometime," he said.
