Glasgow slay the Dragons

Rory Kerr was a deserved man of the match on Friday
Glasgow must be wishing they could play the Celtic League leaders every week after their 48-20 win overNewport Gwent Dragons at Hughenden on Friday.

After a hard fought victory over early pace-setters Ulster two weeks ago, Glasgow won with plenty to spare against the Welshmen, who until Friday, were top of the table.

Before the game there were fears that the big Dragons pack would push the lighter Glasgow forwards around the park, but it was the pace and mobility of the Glasgow XV that blew the Welsh away.

Glasgow ran in seven tries, each of them a cracker and could have had even more but for a couple of high passes.

At the moment, Glasgow look like they can run in tries from anywhere on the park and the back three of Glenn Metcalfe, Sean Lamont and Rory Kerr are in fine form.

Rory Kerr in particular seems to have regained the confidence that is so important to his game and was a well deserved man of the match on Friday. Rory also paid tribute to the contribution of Donnie Macfadyen who has been in outstanding form and will surely come into contention for an international call-up.

Despite a number of changes due to international selection and injury, it was another great performance from Glasgow with the incoming players all making a big impact. Andy Wilson and put in excellent performances in the backrow while it was great to see the first Glasgow tries by Dan Parks, who ran the show from stand-off, and Dave Millard who sprinted in after a great break by Donnie Macfadyen. Sam Pinder had a great game at scrum-half, making life difficult for his opposite number and at every opportunity.

Glasgow coach Hugh Campbell said: "I'm absolutely delighted with the performance. Some fantastic pressure from the boys forced Gwent to make mistakes and we maximised on them. To score four tries in the first half was an excellent start and gave us something to build on.

"It must have been a real effort to keep the pressure and the composure up but Glasgow looked sharp. We've been trying to keep the boys fresh as the season goes on and tonight we saw some fantastic individual performances and a complete team effort," he added.

With Borders also enjoying an upturn in fortunes it makes next week's trip to Netherdale all the more important for both teams.

Phone the Glasgow Warriors office (0141-353 3468) to reserve a seat on the bus - £10 for the return journey and a match ticket.

The bus will leave Hughenden at 4.15pm and depart Netherdale at 9.30pm.

Third tremendous home victory in a row - Glasgow have really come into fine form, with great performances from the whole squad. Think both locks, big Joe and Nathan, had a great game, but agree with Gordon that Snowy, Sean and Rory are playing fantastic rugby together just now. A bonus point already in the bag by half time! What a night!
