"If you read between the lines it would seem like that," agreed Glasgow coach Hugh Campbell.
Williams said yesterday that resting Dan had always been part of the plan but Glasgow's coaches were disappointed to be told in midweek that he was out of their side, albeit that they have a ready replacement in Calvin Howarth.
"We're obviously sorry to lose Dan, but having Calvin Howarth to step in softens the blow as he has been playing very well for us this season," said Hugh.
Dan has played as a replacement against Wales and England but if he is selected to face France it would be his first start for Scotland.
"Dan played very well for us against the Dragons and was one of the main reasons we won the game so he deserves his Scotland call-up," said Sean Lineen, Glasgow's backs coach. "He directed play very well and can shape a game so I can see why they want him involved."
