Sean credits his family as his inspiration

Sean Lamont thanks his family for their support
In today's Mail on Sunday, Sean Lamont credits his step-father as the driving force behind his impressive, and rapid, route to his first full International cap.

"When you are selected for a tour, you hope to get an international cap. But it was a surprise when Matt said I was starting. Words can't describe the feeling. If I get to play against Australia it wil be another big chance."

"My step-dad, Jeff Coates, has been a big influence to me. He's the one who got me into rugby and he's been with me over my whole career so far. My mother said when I was born that both me and my brother would play for Scotland at some point. I've just got to wait for my brother to catch up now."

After Friday's dramatic win over Samoa, Sean feels it would be foolish to write off Scotland's chances. "They are a strong team. They have a lot of fast, big guys. Wendell Sailor did us in Queensland - he was just brushing boys aside. It's a learning curve and we must make sure he doesn't do the same in Melbourne."

"It will be tough against the Wallabies, but not impossible."

Let's hope Sean gets a start in the first test against Australia. Encouraging new, young and exciting talent is surely the way ahead for the Scottish international team and also our three professional teams!

Kevin Ferrie - "...plenty of rough edges..."
With that Neanderthal brow, probably from a family of flint knappers!
Salut!
