The proposed 10-man cull in the Scotland squad ahead of the two Tests against Australia turned out to be less of a bloodbath than expected, with only one still-fit member of the original tour party finding himself surplus to requirements.

Edinburgh lock Alastair Kellock was the player to miss out, with three recent replacements and four injured players joining him on the plane home.

Williams will delay singling out the remaining two unlucky tourist whilst Glasgow's Andy Hall and Paul Dearlove - himself a late replacement for Cameron Mather - remain in Australia on standby for No.8 Jon Petrie and flanker Scott Gray.

JP was last night cleared of a serious neck injury after taking a bang during the Waratahs game, but he had not been cleared to play at the weekend by the time the discarded players left for Sydney airport on Wednesday.

The four injured players who will miss a crack at a cap are prop Allan Jacobsen, wingers Stephen Cranston and Simon Danielli, and Scott MacLeod.

Recent replacements prop Colin Noon, centre Matt Dey and scrum-half Rory Lawson also bid farewell to the tour party.

Chris Paterson will remain with the squad in Australia as he continues to recover from surgery on his fractured cheek.
