Cammy agrees with citing decision

Cammy Mather thinks Glasgow were right to cite Northampton forward Darren Fox for head-butting in the Heineken Cup clash last Sunday.

Fox was sent to the sin bin by French referee Eric Darriere for head-butting Sean Lamont in the European match at Hughenden on Sunday. Fox repeated the offence late in the second half but escaped further punishment.

Glasgow officials reckon the player should have been given a straight red card and have appealed to the event organisers to discipline him further.

Cammy revealed it was the first time in his career that he had been the victim to that kind of assault.

"I have had various parts of my anatomy stamped on, gouged and pulled over the years, but nobody had ever head-butted me until Sunday," admitted Cammy to today's Evening Times.

"He struck me on the back of my head. I escaped with just a bump. But poor Sean got it square on the noggin and was a bit dazed.

"But the referee didn't have a view of it and had to rely on the touch judge. I feel if he had seen it, then it would have been given a straight red.

"We have no excuses for the defeat. We had the chances to win. But, if their player had been ordered off, we would have walked it."

The loss at home in their opening Pool Three fixture has dealt a blow to Glasgow's hopes of making it through to the knockout stage.

However, Cammy feels they still have a slim chance of bouncing back from that against former champions Toulouse in France on Friday night.

He explained: "The pitch at Hughenden on Sunday was the worst I have played on in my two years at Glasgow.

"It was a quagmire and didn't suit our natural game.

"Hopefully, in Toulouse this week, it will be warm and the pitch will be dry as that will allow us to play to our strengths. We'll need to be at our best or we could be in for a real doing.

"I have played against Toulouse at their own ground a couple of times and it is simply incredible.

"With the atmosphere and the quality of their players, it is virtually international rugby."
