Kenny voices concern for future

Kenny Logan is worried over the lack of stability in Scottish rugby
Kenny Logan is ready to lead a revolt of the country's professional players against the Scottish Rugby Union’s general committee

Today's Scotsman reports that Kenny and other seniors pros have been infuriated by the forced removal of David Mackay as chairman of the SRU executive board and refused to rule out strike action. The ousting of Mackay was followed yesterday by the resignations of three other influential businessmen who were brought in to modernise the Union.

Fraser Livingston, Andrew Flanagan and Eric Hagman, all non-executive members of the SRU executive board, quit in protest after Mackay was forced to resign following a vote of no confidence by the general committee.

Senior players, including many current and past internationals, were due to meet in Edinburgh last night to debate the raft of resignations after Kenny called on his Glasgow team-mates to seek broad agreement with their Borders and Edinburgh colleagues before taking their concerns further.

He said: "There is a lot of concern at the moment over the future and the lack of stability in the game and I felt it was important players got together to discuss their concerns.

"I wouldn't like to comment any further on what may emerge, but you can take it as read that there is real concern over the removal of David Mackay, someone the players felt strongly was proving a good leader, and the decision of the other businessmen to quit Scottish rugby."

When asked if strike action was a possibility, Kenny said: "That's speculation at the moment, but obviously players are pretty important to the game."

I wonder if Kenny and his colleagues previously raised their concerns and talks on possible strike action when Mackay & Anderton proposed to cut funding to the pro sides in Scotland by 28% (Page 27 of the SRU business plan) over the next four years?
