Wake-up call was good for Dan

Dan Parks thinks being dropped to bench by Glasgow was a wake-up call he needed
Scotland coach Matt Williams is keeping people guessing over whether Glasgow's Dan Parks or Leeds' Gordon Ross will fill the fly-half berth against France next weekend.

Both conteders were presented as featured players at the traditional captain's press conference at Stirling.

"We're both here because we're both playing in the centre. It's just something different we're trying," Ross told The Telegraph in an imaginative, if rather implausible, explanation:

"It's very close I think," said Dan when asked how he saw the contest between them. "Gordon and Leeds have been playing very well. Hopefully they'll make the right decision." Dan went on to explain that Glasgow's decision to drop him to the bench in favour of Calvin Howarth – a player who is still in Scotland's 35-strong training squad and who could yet emerge as a dark horse contender in the fly-half race – had been a spur to him after his disappointing form in Scotland's four-match Test series last November.

"After the autumn campaign it was a bit of a downer," Dan said. "Coming back to Glasgow I was on the bench for the first three weeks and I was a bit disappointed. On the other hand, it was a good wake-up call for me. I got stuck into training and I think I'm feeling the benefits of that now. I feel really good and I'm just raring to go."

There were a others who's form wasn't all that crash hot besides Parksy. I've been watching him play since he was a little kid, and his best games are always when he's got all the kicking responsibilities, and can call the shots without being stifled by others.

I don't know if Gordon Ross is not better, because he had never been really in the team with Gregor Townsend around.

What i'm afraid about Dan is...

He seems fragile about tackles, and a wee bit lost when there is a lot of pressure, i mean doing a choice very quickly.
The defences are so quick now days, pressure on stand-off is terrible

I hope my opinion is false, i haven't seen Dan playing since last tournement, so

God if you think Dan gets lost wait until you see Gordon Ross.

I remember watching a quarter final last year against Newcastle and it was only when he was taken off did I know he had been playing.

Gordon Ross is a great fly half if his pack is going forward but absolutely anonomus if the pack is under pressure.

However in saying that bith Dan and Gordon have not really had a run in the team and both deserve it.
