Hadden has faith in Euan

Euan Murray is in Scotland's squad to play the Baa-Baas and Romania
Scotland's interim head coach Frank Hadden believes Glasgow prop Euan Murray can make it to the top of the game.

Tom Smith's confirmed departure gives the selectors their biggest headache as there are no obvious successors but Hadden believes that 24-year-old Euan could just be the man.

"I worked with him way back at Scotland youth level and I said he could go all the way to the very top and he still has all the qualities to do just that," said Hadden on the Sporting Life website.

Glasgow stand-off Dan Parks was also named in the squad despite having a difficult RBS 6 Nations Championship campaign.

"Dan is a good stand-off and played well for Scotland and has played consistently well for Glasgow but he needs to try to prove his worth."

Where is the headache, Mr Hadden? I would have thought that Euan was a pretty obvious choice the way he has been playing!

I’ve read the article and nowhere does it quote Hadden as saying Murray is a direct replacement for Smith at loosehead, as has been interpretated by a few in the forum.

What was probably meant by Hadden is that he feels that Murray has the potential to be a stalwart of the Scottish team as Tom Smith has been. If this does indeed occur, then Murray could go on to be a British Lion.

Once again a journalist sensationalising what was probably an encouraging comment about Murray in order to sell column inches.

Only a few days in the job and already the pitfalls of talking to the press occurring!! You have to laugh.
