Injuries mount for Glasgow

Mike Roberts is racing to be fit for the Heineken opener in France
Glasgow Warriors will launch their Heineken Cup campaign without their international back row while a number of other players are doubtful after injuries suffered against Llanelli Scarlets on Sunday.

Andy Wilson, the recently-capped flanker, is expected to be out of action for three to four months after suffering a broken fibula and dislocated ankle in the 24-20 Celtic League defeat at Stradey Park. He joins fellow Test forwards Jon Petrie and Donnie Macfadyen, as well as prop Ben Prescott and fly-half Calvin Howarth, on the sidelines for the upcoming Heineken Cup games away to Bourgoin and at home to Leinster.

Rory Lamont suffered a knee injury on Sunday while wing Mike Roberts sustained a shoulder/arm injury and Euan Murray, the prop, came off with a tight calf muscle. Scott Barrow is still nursing a calf problem and Stuart Corsar only returned to training yesterday after a knee injury. Hugh Campbell, the Glasgow coach, remains hopeful that the quintet might make tomorrow's flight to France and Friday night's match in Bourgoin.

"To say I'm glad the European squads have been increased this season to 36 would be an under-statement," said Hugh in The Scotsman. "Missing experienced back-rowers like Donnie, Jon and Andy would be a devastating blow for any team but I'm encouraged by the back-row talent and strength we have."

Glasgow will name their team tomorrow.

I see the 'Warriors' have been in the wars this last while back.

It appears the professional game is tougher than the old amateur Union judging by the rate, if not the degree of injuries.

Anyway, a wish for a quick recovery to Rory and his mates.

Good on you lads!

The number of injuries is so impressive in the professional rugby now.
Mid October, what it will be during the European Cup and autumn test
Another example with Rob Dewey, so young and promising, already is having a shoulder operation.
I wonder when it will stop, it's like that in all the top countries.
We are going straight to build "robots", and maybe drugs soon.
I'm not a Specialist, but i'm very concerned by tackles now.
The rule should be under stomach.
Look at France;
Stade Francais V Stade Toulousain 80 000 people for a Top 14 game.
Right, good for a popular Rugby game in my country.
But so much pressure with the money by TV, clubs afraid to lose their players by injuries in Internationnal games...
I'm not elitist, or too much traditionalist but i'm afraid of losing a wee bit my passion in the game...
