Jon Petrie has had to watch from the sidelines since the opening game of the season
Jon Petrie hopes his return for Glasgow's Hogmanay clash with Borders set him on his way to winning back a place in the Scotland squad for the RBS Six Nations Championship, which starts in February.

Jon has been out for almost four months after dislocating his shoulder just 33 minutes into the new season in the game with Newport Gwent Dragons.

"I'm really looking forward to playing again," Jon said in The Times. "I have never been a good spectator and though I have been able to use the time to get involved in other things outside the game, it has been incredibly frustrating. As far as this match is concerned, it is a question of starting and seeing how long I last. The shoulder is fine and I have been taking contact for a while but you can never replicate the pressure of a match."

"With my injury and the problems with Donnie Macfadyen (knee) and Andrew Wilson (ankle), we lost a lot of experience in the back row, but one of the good things has been the way the youngsters stepped up and really performed. The two Johns (Barclay and Beattie) and Steve Swindall have been playing well."
