"We played abysmally" - JP

Jon Petrie was furious with his team
Glasgow Warriors captain Jon Petrie didn't hold back in the criticism of his own side's display against Ospreys last night.

He said: "To go from a performance like last week's game against Bourgoin to this is abysmal and I make no apologies in saying that, as players, we are being paid good money and, if guys heads are not in it, we need to look at why."

"Questions must be asked of us as we've proved the team can perform well so it's not a physical problem – it must be a mental attitude thing that makes us such a Jekyll and Hyde team as it looked like some of the guys' heads just weren't in it tonight.

"We just didn't play our style of rugby and I'm really hacked off about it. We obviously have to take a hard look at what happened out there and make sure we do our best so it doesn't happen again.

JP refused to blame Glasgow's wanderings around the city to an array of training and playing grounds as an excuse on the night which saw them use their third "home" ground of the season.

"We are at home in Glasgow. We've played here before, we train here sometimes and we've won here. Ospreys came up here with a depleted squad and get a result, but that's even more disappointing. I'm pissed off with everyone tonight."

Can't disagree with him. Too many times this season to many players have seemed disinterested. It is ok to lose to a better team but I haven't seen a team at home that were better than glasgow and yet 3 wins...

Can't say I blame those people who have given up going over the last couple of years

Iam sorry to say that having made yet another treck to a new stadium I was witness to yet another defeat. It isn't so bad when the team plays out of their skins and goes down fighting but when you pay your cash and see a bunch of lads arsing about and playing with a sort of slap-dash attitude it really leaves a bad taste. With the exception of the mighty T-Bone and big JP the team was hardly in it and never looked interested, the subs on the side line were even laughing and joking with Mr Parks and the rest in the stand when they should have been focusing on the game and waiting their chance to burst onto the field. You can't win them all, true, but you can have a bloody good go at it. The best team won last night.

What I find interesting is the way certain players feel quite ok to stand about and share a laugh and a joke with the others at the end of games like last night. Remeber reading a Gary Armstrong comment and similar comments from players at clubs like Bath and Northampton that after loosing poorly or even playing poorly they were scared to show their face in the pub or even chip shop, cause supporters wouldn't be afraid to tell them whats what! While I'm not suggesting players should be abused after games but to hear folk last night congradualting the players for playing well was beyond a joke!!!

Have to agree, and remember thinking the same after the Hogmanay performance against the Borders - don't think some of the Glasgow players appreciate that when supporters drive three hours each way to Galashiels, pay £50 for tickets and brave the freezing conditions to sit and watch the game we do expect more than a half-baked attempt at playing rugby and a shrug of the shoulders when they lose yet again! I've stuck by Glasgow this season but can't help thinking that players and management are taking the support of people like myself for granted. Also thinking there might be better ways to spend my precious weekends and hard-earned cash than watching a team who don't feel the need to perform and justify the loyal support of their sorely-tested fans!!

It is quite worrying, and maybe Glasgow managers and coaches have
to put their feet in the plate.
What i'm afraid about is some top players are fed up and could be interested to leave and try a new challenge "abroad" (some English and French clubs could be interested by players like JP).

abysmall is not the word
and as far as jp was saying about lack of support, no wander, who would want to watch such a torride team
its lucky they have mugs like us to stand by them
things can only get better i suppose...but then again, we have said that before.

Don't think the guys could complain to much about lack of support last night, even when the game was dead and burried the crowd still stuck with the team and attempted to offer encouragement and support. One might though reflect on which other teams would have still been offered any support for playing so poorly, can't imagine such a performance being by met by anything other than boos at Ravenshill, Thomond Park, Stradey Park! By all accounts Glasgow players get decent support considering their performances, maybe they should look at the round ball game and consider themselves lucky!

Don't forget that that was Ospreys' 2nd XV, due to Welsh national call-ups, injuries and suspensions.

Disciplining yourself both on and off the park, is the key.

Some of the players must begin to realise that they are depending on the paying public to come and watch the game, in order that income can be generated. They must understand that income is important to THEIR futures.
They must begin to realise that they depend on us to support the team and that we are ALL part of the one organisation, and not two seperate sections (ie players and supporters)

Is it true, with David Jordan's loopy points system, whereby Glasgow are given more points for not playing at a week-end than they do if they turn up, that Glasgow have actually only earned NINETEEN points in the Celtic League? Is it true that eight of Glasgow's points are for BLANK week-ends?

If so, it appears that they are second bottom, ahead only of Connacht, the Irish development team.

Yeah this "free week points" system was dreamt up in the space of a few minutes on the back of a cornflake packet.

However, when you look at the seasons end league table all those points the teams have collected make the Celtic league more "appealable" to sponsors and investors. Think - Wow! All those points the teams have collected during the season!

To the "untrained" eye who doesn't know the format it looks as if the "sponsorless" leagues running in the tries left right and centre, teams are collecting huge numbers of league points (with the help of those free week points), which the Celtic League chiefs want people to think that massive numbers of points means flowing, attractive, special, invigorating, awesome rugby...

On those quiz shows we've heard numerous times "points mean prizes"! Or in the Celtic League's case "points mean - hopefully a major sponsor"!

...well that's what I heard..and from someone kinda important in the Celtic League.

The free weekend thing comes from the NRL in australia I believe

My point was simply that the current Celtic League points totals disguise the awful reality of Glasgow's true ranking.
