Ford was announced as an Glasgow signing in August but with the return of Edinburgh to central control the SRU have shifted the hooker to the capital city side.
Glasgow coach Sean Lineen says that, despite the Ford move, the Warriors are still strong enough for the Magners League challenge.
Sean told the Glasgwegian newspaper: "We have Fergus Thomson and Eric Milligan in that position and Dougie Hall is making a great recovery from his injury so it still looks good.
"I expect Dougie to be back to his old self and performing as well as ever.
"As for Ross, he will get more game time at Edinburgh than here so from a Scotland point of view it is a good move.
"I can understand that fans are annoyed but we've done well out of the SRU this season with Lome Fa'atau, Daryl Gibson, Bernardo Stortoni, Michael Collins and Kelly Brown all signed up to us.
"We've had an ample share of the pie so I suppose you cannot begrudge Edinburgh a crust.
"Some have said that this could send out the wrong signals to any potential new signings that I may choose to go for in the future.
"However, if they look at the quality that has been brought into Glasgow by the SRU then that should help them in deciding to join us.
"Naturally a few non-rugby armchair pundits will use this as another chance to put the game down but football has transfer sagas far worse than this."
