Calvin Howarth retires

Calvin Howarth
Former Glasgow stand-off Calvin Howarth has retired from the game due to injury.

A knee injury has forced the former Scotland 'A' player out of the game at the age of 32.

Calvin started his career in Scotland with Boroughmuir and turned pro with Edinburgh. He moved west to joining Glasgow and enjoyed four years in the city before moving to Viadana in Italy.

Always a popular figure in Glasgow, Calvin and Viadana faced the Warriors in last season's Heineken Cup.

glasgowwarriors.com would like to wish Calvin and family every success for the future.

Calvin is a top bloke, I always thought he was under-rated at Glasgow. As a 10 he got his backline moving much better than any of the present incumbents. He always had time to stand and talk to people and there were absolutely no airs and graces about him. I'm sure he'll be a great asset wherever and whtever he decides to do now - hopefully back in Scotland but I doubt it as last time I spoke to him he was thoroughly enjoying life in Italy with his wife and family. All the best Hobbsy!

The word from Italy is Calvin may end up in Australia - he's thinking of returning to teaching physical education or working in the construction business.

I remember him when he used to play at Bouroughmuir, shame we're losing such a great player to retirement, but good luck to him.
