Ditch the consistent inconsistency

Kelly Brown is looking for more consistency
Kelly Brown starts at openside for Glasgow in Sunday's Heineken Cup match with Dragons at Firhill.

Glasgow can't qualify but the players still have much to play for, not least the chance to bring some consistency to an up and down season.

Kelly told the Telegraph: "We have got to get that consistency. We can't have a showing one week that is hugely encouraging and then fall on our faces.

"It is up to us as players in the whole 22. It just takes a couple of guys to be off and the whole side struggles. It is up to the whole 22 to perform well time and time again and not have just one good game in four.

"Speaking to Frank [Hadden, the Scotland coach] in the past, that is something he is keen to see – guys playing well week on week on week, not just one in four."

Kelly's customary position for Glasgow is on the blindside, while he has also been filling in at No.8 in recent games - a versatility that could increase his chances of a place in the Scotland 22 for the match with Wales in two weeks' time. His recent Glasgow form earned praise from Scotland forwards coach Mike Brewer and Kelly was satisfied to be told of Brewer's remarks.

"I certainly hope he has taken notice. There is no getting away from the fact that I got dropped by Glasgow and did not play for Scotland in November. That was a pretty crappy time for me but instead of shying away from it I tried to front up to it and take on board things that Mike and the coaches were saying to me. I feel I have improved but still have a long, long way to go."
