Glasgow want to hit the ground running

Kelly Brown says Glasgow are ready for the return to Magners League action
Glasgow's Kelly Brown thinks the break for the Autumn internationals will not have a negative effect on the Warriors when they return to Magners League action on Friday night against Ulster at Ravenhill.

Kelly said in the Evening Times: "I don't see any problems for us after the break.

"The way I look at it is that Scotland have had a pretty successful Autumn Series and the Glasgow Warriors players involved like Johnnie Beattie, Alastair Kellock, Chris Cusiter, Moray Low, Graeme Morrison and Thom Evans have all contributed towards that.

"So they have come back buoyed by winning against Australia and Fiji and hungry to help us pick up where we left off in the Magners League.

"As for the players who were not away with Scotland, then they have worked hard on the training field and are just desperate for match action.

"So either way I think there will be a freshness about the boys for the Ulster game that will be a big plus."

In the corresponding fixture last season Glasgow slumped to a 12-0 defeat on a miserable night at Ravenhill.

Kelly said: "The game at Ravenhill was played in the worst conditions I have ever experienced.

"The pitch was a swamp and there was a howling gale. To make matters worse we were not at full strength and we did not do ourselves justice.

"But we are in good fettle for this one and although Ulster have been going well themselves we have already shown that we can win at difficult venues this season like Cardiff, so we can take confidence from that.

"The target for this season is to make the play-offs and if we want to achieve that we need to be taking points from places like Ulster."

Meanwhile Thom Evans says it is now "massively" important he maintains his recent form for Glasgow.

He said: "I'm feeling really strong and I can't wait to go out this week and carry on. I want to play against Ulster.

"We're third in the table at the moment in the Magners League so it's a massive challenge to stay there and make the top four and the play-offs. It's something I definitely want to be a part of."
