Sean looks to strengthen squad

Peter Murchie has made big strides since joining Glasgow from London Welsh
Glasgow head coach Sean Lineen says he has been scouring the world to strengthen his squad for next season.

Sean says he has targeted at least two signings to bolster his side and is confident he can unearth more bargain buys like high-scoring Canadian internationalist winger DTH van der Merwe.

Sean told the Evening Times: “We know where we need to strengthen and it is fair to say that we are scouring worldwide to unearth talent that will make a big contribution to Glasgow Warriors.

“We accept it is all about bargain-hunting, but there is good value to be had out there if you look hard enough.

“If you look back to when Max Evans arrived at Glasgow, and the impact he has made, and then the way DTH van der Merwe has come through as an outstanding finisher this season, then there is quality to be had.

“I would also add Peter Murchie to that list. He has worked really hard since signing from London Welsh and now we have an outstanding young, Scottish qualified player, who can play at both centre and full-back and has just got his first Scotland ‘A’ cap. It would be fair to say I have irons in the fire and we are working away busily behind the scenes.”

Sean also tipped Pat MacArthur to put pressure on Fergus Thomson and Dougie Hall for the hooker’s jersey. He said: “Pat came off the bench against Ulster for Fergus and did a good job. He is making great strides with his put-in at the line-out and with his scrummaging, and he is also mobile.

“He has a part to play in the last four games, but I think he will be making a real challenge for a starting slot next season. To have three quality players battling it out at hooker, is going to be a big plus for us.”

I've always wondered why they don't go to the U.S. and sniff around guys who didn't quite make the NFL. I mean they seem to get ditched and you end up with some top notch athletes working in Starbucks!
