It's been a good season for the Canadian winger - with three tries in this season's Heineken Cup he has a strike rate of a try every two matches.
But with just next Friday’s trip to Magners League and Heineken Cup double-chasing Leinster left, DTH says that he is already looking forward to next term.
DTH told the Evening Times: “Yeah, I am pleased with how the current season has gone on a personal note in what has been a difficult season for Glasgow because of our crippling injury list. But I think a lot of my success this season has been due to the hard yards I put in last term.
“Now I know how the players work, where the ball is going. I’m familiar with the set-play backs’ moves and comfortable with them and all of that has made me a better player and finisher for it.
“To be sitting third-top in the Magners’ try list is pretty pleasing too but a lot of the credit for that must go to the rest of the guys for giving me the platform for the scores.”
DTH says he takes special satisfaction from the two McCrea Financial Services fans’ Player of the Month gongs he has already scooped with his brace of tries against Scarlets last time out making him among the frontrunners to win the April prize.
“I think any player at any rugby club will tell you that to have the fans vote for you means a lot. They pay their money and back the club through thick and thin – rain, sun and sleet! Their opinions matter to the players.
“So I would just like to say a big shout out to the fans and to McCrea Financial Services for sponsoring the awards.”
Looking forward to Leinster and beyond, van der Merwe has no doubt that Glasgow will come good again next season.
He said: “Obviously we are going to need a bit of luck with injury compared to this season and we will also have a few of the boys on Scotland international duty at the Rugby World Cup at the beginning of the season. So they are two big factors for next time around.
“But we are definitely going to reap rich rewards from the blooding of guys like Ryan Wilson, Robert Harley, Peter Murchie and Duncan Weir in this campaign. They will learn from all of that – as I have done.
“We have to look to produce a performance at Leinster that will allow us to go out on a high.”
