Rectify the small margins...

Tom Ryder has settled in well since his move from Saracens
Tom Ryder thinks Glasgow can make their mark when the RaboDirect PRO12 gets underway.

The big lock says the Warriors - who finished second bottom of the Magners League last term - are capable of hauling themselves back into the top four.

Speaking to the club's official website he said: "I feel quite settled in the club already. This is a club with a lot of promise. There are some good young players and we play a good brand of rugby.

"Obviously last season results didn't always go the way we wanted.

"We tended to lose games by small margins and I think if we can rectify the small margins we can have a successful season.

"Hopefully we can replicate what happened a couple of years ago and get ourselves into the play-offs."

Tom and his fellow Warriros have been slogging it out for the past fortnight as the Warriors pre-season schedule gets into gear.

He said: "Pre-season has been tough. We are going into our third week and there's been a lot of weights and a lot of running getting ourselves fit for the start of the season.

"The first part of pre-season is always the toughest of the season. But it's enjoyable to know that you can feel yourself get fitter with every session."

Oh Tom, you seem to have lot to learn - we have even less of a squad compared to last season when most teams are consolidating we/are once again rebuilding. Optimism is brilliant just read all of SL's blubbings on this website!

What exactly did the guy say wrong?

"What exactly did the guy say wrong?"

All these comments from players are just background noise, they don't mean anything. Tom has not said anything that you would not expect a player to say. But most of it is meaningless and I doubt deep down even he believes it. We have at the moment a weaker team than last season, where we finished bottom and he comes out with "This is a club with a lot of promise." and if the we can turn a few close losses into wins we can make the playoffs.

Would you be happier if he'd just said we're shite and will be whipping boys in the new season?

"Would you be happier if he'd just said we're shite and will be whipping boys in the new season?"

Aye! Would make for a more interesting and realistic read.

In some ways he is right in the vast majority of games last season we lost because of a moment or moments of stupidity either in defense or lack of composure in attack.

However it does not take away from the bigger picture which is that while we are at best stagnating if not going backwards most of the other teams in the league are improving the quality of the personnel.

Is there anyone on this site that believes we will not lose Cuister, Barclays, Beattie, Arambau, DTH, Low and perhaps Welsh & Jackson as well when their contracts are due up at the end of the season..

I fully share the frustration but we can only hope lessons have been learned after mckie eviscerated what small budget we enjoyed and the club and sru will fight to keep these guys because bringing in new guys is all very well and while the fans have been patient waiting for them to develop it is demoralizing watching them disappear the first chance they get.

Personally I'm looking forward to next season. The last was written off before it started imo and now the only way is up. This is still a better team than last seasons results reflect.
