Finlay Gillies hopes to feature against Scarlets
Finlay Gillies hopes his all-action style in the loose can help him keep his place in the Glasgow team for Friday night's visit of Scarlets.

Finlay told the Evening Times: "Obviously there are aspects of my game I need to improve, but I hope the fact that I maybe have an edge in mobility in terms of around the breakdown will give me an edge.

"I have to hold my hands up and say that at least two of the line-outs we lost at Ulster in our opening game were down to me.

"While I was also guilty of infringing and conceding a penalty, but I will learn from all of that and just hope I get the chance on Friday night from the start. They say that a good hooker is like an additional loose forward and I believe that is a strong part of my game."

Fin also revealed that he almost gave up on the the pro game to return to education, before grabbing his opportunity with the Warriors.

Fin said: "Two years back I had virtually given up on a professional career and en-listed for a course as PE teacher with Glasgow University which I had been accepted for. Then Sean Lineen asked me to come back in on a part-time basis and that led to a full-time deal. When Gregor Townsend came in this summer he handed me a new contract and made me part of the Warriors leadership group. Needless to say I had to call time on my teaching course, but I can go back to that.

"You only get one shot at a professional rugby career and I am 100 per cent determined to make the most of the oppor- tunity I have been handed by first Sean and now Gregor."

Fin added: "But this Friday night against Scarlets is the game everyone wants to be in from the start for and fingers crossed I've done enough over the last few days in training to do that."
