Glasgow support must bring the noise

James Eddie is battling for a spot in the Glasgow back row
Glasgow back row man James Eddie says the Warriors supporters have a big role to play in this Friday’s derby clash with Edinburgh.

The first leg of the 1872 Cup is being held at Scotstoun Stadium (ko 7.35pm) and James says the Glasgow support can give the players an added boost as they take on their big rivals.

Glasgow have lifted the 1872 Cup for the last three years, and James said: “We want to make it four in a row, definitely, but Edinburgh have a real threat about them and can score from pretty much anywhere. We’re going to have to be very sharp to keep that win streak going.

“They are laden with international players who can cause any team problems but we know our gameplan and even though it’s a short turnaround from the defeat to Castres in the Heineken Cup, we’ll make sure we recover and be fighting fit for Friday night.”

James, who missed a large chunk of last season through injury, is now challenging for a regular starting place in Gregor Townsend’s side.

“There is terrific competiton for places here and everybody is desperate to make their mark and I’m certainly no different. It takes a lot of work and effort but everybody here is proud of being a Glasgow Warrior, it means a lot to the squad and staff at Scotstoun.

“This is the first visit of the derby to Scotstoun and our home support plays a massive part in driving us on. There is a terrific atmosphere inside the stadium for each and every game but this one will be special.

“There are certainly bragging rights at stake but there are also league points up for grabs which could go a long way to deciding the next few months of our season.

“We know what Edinburgh are capable of and how good a side they can be so we need to be wary but up for the battle.”
