With Stuart Hogg touring with the British and Irish Lions Peter has the chance to make his mark with the Scottish touring party this weekend.
The Scots will face Samoa, South Africa, and possibly Italy in the inaugural three Test Quadrangular tournament and the Glasgow full-back is determined to impress.
Peter told the Evening Times: "It is a fantastic opportunity for me to really try and get some game time in a Scotland shirt and show what I can do.
"I have two targets for the tour and those are to play as much as I can and to do that as part of a winning team.
"That is going to be a big ask with the first two Tests against Samoa and South Africa, but it is a challenge we are all really looking forward to.
"We have 14 Glasgow players in the squad and we are all coming off a great season with our confidence high.
"So every one of us is hungry to test ourselves against some of the best players out there.
"With Hoggy away with the Lions, I have the chance to really make a case for myself with Scotland and I am determined to make the most of the opportunity."
But there is no doubt about the match Peter is desperate to feature in. The Warriors full-back said: "In November in the Autumn Tests I was on the bench for the game with South Africa, but Andy Robinson never put me on.
"It would be fantastic if I get the chance to play against the Boks on their turf and really make up for missing out before.
"But every one of the lads is in the same boat. You have nine uncapped players in the squad and each one of them will be bursting a gut."
