Glasgow Warriors have launched their new Macron playing kits, which have been inspired by Glasgow-born architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

An iconic design inspired by the world-renowned architect and designer is featured on the front and back of the 2013/14 shirts and for the first time the Glasgow District Rugby Union logo has been included on the back.

There are prominent light blue panels on both the black home kit and white alternate kit and the logo of BT Sport, the club’s new main sponsor, is displayed on the front of the shirts and on the back of the playing shorts.

The kit was launched today by captain Alastair Kellock and stand-off Duncan Weir in the "Hen Run" at the top of The Glasgow School of Art's world-famous Mackintosh Building.

Replica shirts will be available as a standard fit of the players’ performance top while a traditional cotton supporters’ shirt has been added to the range.

The team will wear the new kit for the first time when they take on Harlequins in a pre-season friendly in London on Saturday.

Supporters can reserve their new kit now by calling Greaves Sports on 0141 221 3322 or by visiting any of their stores. It is anticipated that the kit will be available in Greayves Sports and all official Macron retailers in early September.

Glasgow Warriors captain Alastair Kellock told glasgowwarriors.org: “I love the new Macron kit. The design is vibrant and it’s really comfortable to wear.

"Charles Rennie Mackintosh is synonymous with Glasgow and we’re very proud to have a design inspired by him on our new kit.”

Duncan Weir added: “I like the attention to detail and having the Glasgow District Rugby Union logo on the back of the shirts is an excellent addition, as this represents all the club teams within our district.”

Gianluca Pavanello, Macron CEO said: “We understand the importance of identity and for this reason we have worked closely with Glasgow Warriors to create not only a unique design but a brand new bespoke model of shirt.

“Our designers have worked tirelessly to encapsulate the spirit of Glasgow and we hope the final design will be a proud symbol of the city and most importantly the clubs’ loyal supporters.

“After the success of Glasgow Warriors last season we hope the technical aspects of the jerseys will help drive the squad further on as it strives for excellence."
