Connor Braid has joined Glasgow Warriors
Canadian international stand-off Connor Braid has joined Glasgow Warriors on a short-term contract.

The utility back has joined on an initial three-month deal.

The 24-year-old, who has played for Canada 7s as well as the full Canada 15s side, arrived in Glasgow earlier this week and has started training with his new teammates at Scotstoun, ahead of the pre-season friendly with Harlequins on Saturday.

Connor, who can play at fly-half, centre and full-back, was part of the Canada 7s team at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last month and scored a try against Scotland in their 21-5 defeat at Ibrox.

The former Doncaster Knights back has played in 11 sevens tournament on the IRB Sevens World Series and has scored 100 points.

He was a second half substitute for the Canada 15s team in their 19-17 defeat to Scotland in Toronto in June and has 12 full caps for his country.

Connor said: "Glasgow is a really good club and when Gregor (Townsend) gave me a call I jumped at the opportunity.

"I've been playing with Canada 7s recently, but I felt this was a great opportunity and couldn't say no.

"DTH (van der Merwe) is one of my best friends and he spoke very highly of the club.

"I know a lot of the players from the sevens circuit and I played against Scotland in the summer tests.

"I'm here for three months and I'll keep my head down and work hard as I'd love to be here longer.”

Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: "We're looking forward to getting the chance to look at Connor in training and in matches over the next few months.

"He's played in every position in the midfield and is equally comfortable at full-back.

"He has a real desire to develop as a professional rugby player and we're delighted to bring him in ahead of the new season.

"His versatility will come in useful and he'll add to the competition we already have within the squad.

"Connor should be in good physical shape having been involved with the Canada 7s team at the Commonwealth Games, so he's likely to be involved in our pre-season games over the next couple of weeks.”
