Venue switch for Battle for New Scotland

Saturday’s Battle for New Scotland international rugby match between Canada and Glasgow Warriors has been moved to Graves Oakley in Spryfield.

The match, which is expected to draw about 5,000 fans, was to be played at Wanderers Grounds in Halifax but organizers said in a news release Thursday that the field surface there was deemed “unsafe’’ by personnel from Rugby Canada and the Glasgow Warriors.

The match starts at 3.00pm (local time). Glasgow fans can watch the game live on BBC ALBA at 7.00pm UK time.

“While efforts have been made over the past number of months to improve the Wanderers Grounds turf, it unfortunately did not respond as hoped and the safety of the players is our number one priority,” said a release from Sports & Entertainment Atlantic.

Organizers say seats will be configured in the same location relative to the field. They’re also developing a transportation plan for fans looking for a lift to Graves Oakley.
